Central America - A land of volcanoes, beaches, biodiversity, unique foods & a
strong Latin culture...
Tourism in Central America is vastly growing, with over 1.7 million tourists visiting Costa Rica alone every year! Yet, despite the new economic opportunities, many Central American countries are still riddled with generational poverty & a lack of social opportunities. It was after our initial Central America project in early 2018 that we realised the deep rooted need for education & opportunities across these unique countries.
With Central American literacy rates being among the lowest in all of Latin America & The Caribbean (68% adult literacy rate - Nicaragua - 2017), many of the social issues that result from a lack of education are deep rooted in society. Without the ability to read & write, pursuing basic education, employment & even the most basic of other tasks are compromised. It's for this reason that creating a lasting change here requires close co-operation with local partners who are equally passionate about relieving poverty.
Upon our initial 2018 Central America project, we also realised a great incentive for local people - Action Sports. The Pacific coastline of Central America is home to some of the most consistent waves on the planet - Helping to inspire a whole new generation of surfers & skateboarders. For those living in impoverished situations, action sports can provide a chance to get away - An escape from the struggles of daily life.
Learn Achieve Become are working with local partner organisations across Central America to deliver our unique '50 days of change' project - In which we aim to simultaneously improve literacy rates & access to action sports, whilst on a 50 day time scale.
This temporary project shall last from
June-August 2021, bringing support to over 10 communities across Central America. Through close collaboration with local partner organisations, we can be assured that the positive effects from our
project shall be long-lasting.
To support this project, we're selling a variety of skate/surf equipment & taking a minimum of 4 international volunteers - Please show your support by either donating, making a purchase or signing up to volunteer!
