We are learn achieve become (L.A.B) - We're a UK registered charity, working across the world to bring free education and sports projects to disadvantaged individuals & communities across the world.
Our story:
Back in 2017, Learn Achieve Become (L.A.B) was merely an idea... Nothing more than the vision of 3 young education & development professionals who wanted to make a genuine difference in the world. After gaining some first-hand experience working & volunteering with international organisations, it soon became clear to us that many of those organisations had corrupt tendencies, which often resulted in ineffective projects, dissatisfied donors & an overall lack of beneficiaries... Knowing that we had the skills to make a genuine change, L.A.B was born later that year.
Now, L.A.B is an established and fully registered UK charity. We remain as a small organisation, with an absolute dedication to improving the quality of life for disadvantaged individuals & communities across the world through free education and sports projects. Our slogan 'education without boundaries' is reflective of our attitude; our services are open and accessible to everyone, regardless of their age, race, gender, religion, ability or social status.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We support people across the world, through the creation of free educational and sports projects which are accessible to everybody. Generally, we aim to work in areas where the population are excluded, forgotten or left behind, and through our projects, we uplift these individuals, giving them access to greater opportunities. Our main activities include:
- Creating & managing free educational facilities and programs - We set up formal / informal schools, education centres, extra-curricular workshops & more to improve educational access and basic academic skills.
-Distributing free educational equipment & resources.
-Improving access & opportunities to a variety of sports by running events, creating new clubs & hosting open days.
-Forming partnerships with other non-profit organisations to highlight & address social or environmental issues.
-Forming mutually beneficial partnerships with schools, businesses & universities to provide a platform for change-making.
WHERE DO WE WORK?
Previously, we created a number of temporary projects in different locations across the world, including Madagascar, Kenya, Guatemala, Nicaragua & Costa Rica.
However, currently, we are shifting our focus to run 2 ongoing, permanent & specialised projects in Nosy Be, Madagascar & Santiago de Atitlan, Guatemala.
To ensure that our work meets the genuine needs of local people, all of our international projects are delivered in partnership with trusted local organisations, communities & influential people.
HOW ARE WE FUNDED?
At Learn Achieve Become, we understand the importance of reliability & accountability in the non-profit industry. Our aim is to generate funds ethically, providing value to those who choose to support us. Currently, we have 6 funding streams:
- Supporter donations / subscriptions
- Mutually beneficial partnerships with schools, businesses & universities
- Grant appeals
- Online product sales
- Overseas volunteering expeditions / group trips.
- In-country revenue generation
our results so far:
- In March 2023, we created the first centre for the education and support of people with disabilities in Nosy Be, Madagascar - The Sunrise Centre. Being one of the first of it's kind in Madagascar, we aim for our unique model of support for people with disabilities to be replicated across the island nation.
- We founded a unique program, Ny Fianarantsika, where we bring free education to approximately 100 out-of-school children in Nosy Be, Madagascar. Many of the students on this project are involved in child labour, or living in rural communities, where access to education is limited. Our team of local teachers make regular visits, working to a curriculum which ensures that students can learn the most essential academic skills.
- We have initiated pen-pal exchanges between students in the UK, Ireland, Spain, China, Madagascar, Kenya, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Through our school partnership program, we have created a range of educational connections across the world.
- We have partnered with Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln, England, to create an ongoing international volunteering partnership for students on the SENDI course, giving them the opportunity to gain some first-hand experience working with people with disabilities in our Sunrise Centre.
- Our Escuelita Rixiin Ya' project in Guatemala began in January 2024, through which we are working on the shores of Lake Atitlan, bringing free education & holistic opportunities to children in the rural communities of Chacaya and Chukumuk. On this project, we are also actively seeking to uphold the local ancient Mayan language of Tz'utujil.
- Upon hearing reports about horrific abuse taking place against the street child population of Eldoret, Kenya, we investigated the issue, and shared our findings with prominent UK journalists.
- We have partnered with the University of Toronto, Canada, where we enable teams of occupational and phsyical therapists are share their skills to address the needs of disabled communities in Madagascar.
